Between April 30 and August 23, 2011, HERC conducted 13 classes for homeowners interested in applying for EHLP. HERC counselors explained the program, helped those attending complete the EHLP application and reviewed the required supporting documentation. Seventy-nine households attended these classes and 72 submitted applications through HERC.
The final date for submitting completed applications, with supporting documents was September 1, 2011.
TAKING IT ON THE ROAD.....
On June 16, 2011, HERC staff conducted a workshop on Foreclosure Prevention in the Town of Manchester. The event was sponsored by the Town's Human Services Department and was recorded for viewing on "Silk City Television", Manchester's Government and Education Television station.
A workshop addressing Foreclosure Prevention was conducted by HERC on June 28, 2011 in the Town of West Hartford. Representatives of the State Banking Department were among those who attended the event.
HERC participated in an event sponsored by the Bank of America held at the Connecticut Convention Center on July 14, 15 and 16. The event was attended by 105 Bank of America at-risk mortgage clients and community residents who received assistance services from representatives of 8 counseling agencies and Bank of America staff.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
June 30th marked the end of HERC's 31st year of operation. And a busy year it was as HERC....
** Responded to 1,794 requests for counseling and assistance from 702 individuals with 1,594 household members
** Conducted 13 Foreclosure Prevention Clinics and 2 Financial Education Clinics that were attended by 133 people
** Provided housing services to 141 participants in the Money Follows the Person program and transitioned 48 consumers
** Provided housing mobility and search assistance to 74 State rental subsidy holders who participated in the North Central Mobility Program. With HERC's assistance, 46 clients leased up using their subsidies
About our clients:
** They were residents of 74 different communities
** The majority (91%) were low income
** Around two-thirds (66%) were women
** Approximately 38% of the women were the head of their household
** 59% were racial or ethnic minorities
CONTINUING EDUCATION
So that HERC can continue to provide clients with objective, comprehensive and reliable information, education and assistance services, staff regularly participates in professional training that addresses a variety of issues. During the 2010-2011 Program Year, training topics included:
